I can’t vouch for the accuracy of this, but it it is pretty fascinating. I’ve always heard that if taken by itself California would be like the 5th or 6th biggest economy in the world. This map makes comparisons with all US states. The map and the pie chart below it just make abundantly clear how much of a juggernaut the US is. Russia’s whole economy is equivalent to New Jersey’s? Crazy.

I’m just amazed a world economy that is so stilted and unbalanced is stable. I’m surprised we don’t have more illegal immigration than we do. If my entire country’s gross domestic product just equaled North Dakota, I’d come here too.
