To Casey & Vanessa

Hello everyone, I’m Alex, and I’ll be your Best Man for the evening. Casey and I go way back to middle school, and I am deeply honored to be given the position of Best Man. Of course, that got me thinking. If I’m the Best Man, what does that make Casey?

Seriously though, thank you Casey for honoring me in this way, certainly a big thanks to Casey & Vanessa’s parents for putting together this amazing event, thank you everyone for coming today, and finally thank you Vanessa for marrying my best friend.

As is customary, I will take a moment to mention some of the trials, tribulations, adventures and misdemeanors we have had together, and believe me, I wasn’t short of material. Although most of it I’ve had to edit, throw away, burn or hand over to the police to help them with their investigations. So this is what’s left over.

Its scary to think about it, but I’ve known Casey for half my life. In that time we’ve done some crazy things together, embarked on many adventures. Whether it was setting up a poker table in the men’s room at the mall, our bike rides to every city within 30 miles of here, or our ground breaking innovations in the technology of toilet papering that pushed forward into unchartered territory that the inventor, Joseph Cayetty never dreamed of, Casey was there.

Casey was always the voice of caution, whereas I was always pushing the group forward into more creative (and riskier) adventures. But when a new adventure was suggested I didn’t need to push one bit, Casey was never more determined or committed. This final adventure didn’t involve me, the gang, THABOAT, or even toilet paper, but rather the love of his life, Vanessa.

Knowing that this new adventure will take him away from any futher adventures we might have together does make me a bit sad, but I am put at ease for two chief reasons. First, I’ve known Vanessa for almost as long as Casey has, and know she is an amazing woman with whom Casey will share a long happy life. Losing my partner in crime to a firm, loving relationship such as this is not really a loss at all, but rather the gain of a wonderful person in Vanessa, and indeed the gain of a new & improved friend in Casey. Secondly, I suppose I can’t get too upset, since Casey actually asked me first and I said no.

Casey & Vanessa have both grown in the last five years, and so has their relationship. Even before the marriage it was difficult to picture either of them apart from one another. They carry the distinction of being an old married couple before they were either old, or married.

With that said, I invite everyone to raise a glass and help me in making a toast to Casey and Vanessa, for their devotion, friendship and love is a model for all couples. I have no doubt these two amazing people will share a long, happy life together. To Casey & Vanessa.
