What Kind of American English Do You Speak?
I spotted this fun dialect quiz on Matthew Yglesias’ blog, and I present to thee further proof I am a proud midwesterner. Though while I couldn’t admit it on the quiz, I do admit that “soda” is rubbing off on me….
I feel ashamed.

I was seventy percent General, Twenty percent Yankee, and ten percent dixie. That is pretty accurate.

I got mostly general and Yankee, with a smidgen of Dixie, which is pretty accurate. I lived in the South for five years, California for five years, and NY for three, when I was very young. And don’t forget Europe — I’ve lived in Europe for around six or seven years.
